Fox Ohio Valley WTRF-DT3 is the ABC-affiliated television station for Wheeling, West Virginia and Steubenville, Ohio. The station is known on-air as ABC Ohio Valley, and broadcasts on a digital subchannel of CBS affiliate WTRF-TV which is owned by West Virginia Media Holdings.
In addition to offering a digital signal on UHF channel 32.3 (virtual channel 7.3) from WTRF's transmitter in Boydsville, Ohio, WTRF-DT3 is also offered on Comcast cable channel 205. WTRF-DT3's parent station has studios on 16th Street in downtown Wheeling.
WTRF-DT3 airs live simulcasts of WTRF newscasts, with separate on-screen branding to denote "ABC Ohio Valley".
As a result of Fox and MyNetwork TV airing on WTRF-DT2 and the recent launch of WTRF-DT3 in August of 2008, the tiny Wheeling / Steubenville market no longer lacks any major network affiliate. Local viewers had to rely mostly on WTAE-TV from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as well as WSYX-TV from Columbus, Ohio in the extreme western portion of the market for ABC programming. WYTV-TV from Youngstown, Ohio also airs in parts of the market on cable. For now, both WTAE and WYTV retain their analog cable carriage on the local Comcast systems, with "ABC Ohio Valley" airing only on digital cable.
Previously, ABC programming aired in the market as a secondary affiliation to both WTRF and NBC affiliate WTOV-TV, a practice that was largely phased out in the 1980s.
